The Mothers of Jesus

The Gospel of Matthew, which shows the genealogy of Jesus, surprises careful readers by noting the various women that eventually gave way to Mary, the mother of Jesus. The mothers of Jesus were outsiders, with traumatic histories. The mothers of Jesus show us that the message of Advent is that God can make beauty out of our mess, healing out of our trauma and glory from the most unexpected places.
