The Cross and the Crown
The King Has Come | John 12:1-19
In John 12, Jesus finally enters Jerusalem as the true and final King. But what kind of king would Jesus be? The religious leaders feared he would be a political king who put them out of power. The disciples also misunderstood the nature of Jesus’ kingdom and only came to realize it afterward. The only person who really understood was Mary, a woman who had previously sat at the feet of Jesus. Mary shows us how to filter out the noise of the moment and to see Jesus and worship him in spirit and in truth.
The Servant | John 12:24-28; 13:1-5; 12-20
Jesus shows us the paradoxical truth that the way up is the way down. Greatness in the kingdom of God means humbling ourselves to the lowest place. When we die to ourselves, we will find our true selves and find ultimate meaning and glory.
