VISION

CITY LIGHT DESIRES TO BE A CHRIST-CENTERED, CITY-FOCUSED, CROSS-CULTURAL CHURCH IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES.

CHRIST-CENTERED

The gospel frees us with the good news that God accepts us not because of what we have done but because of what Jesus has done for us. Our acceptance by God isn’t achieved, it’s freely received. We, therefore, welcome people of all backgrounds, histories and hurts into our community. We celebrate the goodness of our God and not the record of our achievements. Our entire ministry – from our Sunday services to our community groups – is a celebration of God’s grace and acceptance in Jesus.

CITY-FOCUSED

Our ministry shares God’s love for the city. We believe in its beauty but also seek to heal much of its brokenness. We believe that the city is a dynamic place filled with diversity, culture and influence, but also an iconic symbol of racial and socioeconomic division. It is a place where you have million dollar lofts next to homeless encampments. Our ministry seeks to be a church comprised of people that seeks to bridge the divide by engaging in the welfare of the city.

CROSS-CULTURAL

From Spanish missionaries, to the LA riots, to Korean-Mexican food trucks, Los Angeles’ ethnic and racial diversity has defined the city’s history and culture. Our church seeks not only to reflect the brilliant diversity of Los Angeles but also to bridge the cultural and racial gaps that exist within our city. Testifying to the power of Jesus to bring reconciliation, we aspire to be a church that brings diverse cultures, races and socio-economic groups together to demonstrate and proclaim the wonder of Jesus.

Serving the church is one of my greatest joys. It is in that place of service I get to witness the deepest needs and longings of the human heart satisfied in Christ. My journey in the ministry started in the east coast after receiving training at Nyack College and Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia. Among my other joys are the simple things in life- family, food, and friends.

Jay Ro
Worship Director

Our Worship Ministry Director, Jay Ro, has been playing music ever since the age of 4 (starting with the violin).  Born and raised in West Lafayette, IN, Jay obtained his bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and lived in Houston, TX where he worked in the technology space.  He later received his master's in Statistics from the University of Chicago prior to working in marketing and data analytics.  Jay recently moved to LA in order to be closer to family and currently works as an analytic consultant during the week. Jay is extremely passionate about music, having performed/written/recorded on numerous occasions.  He is almost always seen either singing or playing guitar, whether it be walking in his neighborhood or driving (safely) down the streets of LA.  He considers it a tremendous honor and blessing to be able to serve the Lord and His church through praise and worship.   Jay also is an avid film/comics buff, sports fan, and concertgoer.  In addition to running and tennis, he also loves going on road trips exploring the coast of California, taking along his precocious dog Cheeto.
